Hello and welcome. Thank you for taking some time to find out about myself, my craft and what I bring to artists & studio projects.
My name is Ed Hall and I am an Audio & Mastering Engineer/Record Producer coming out of the small working class towns of North West England.
I've been practicing Audio Engineering and Record Production for a near-life-time and continue to do so from two independent facilities as an Audio Engineer, Record Producer, Session Musician and dedicated Mastering Engineer.
My love is to build music from the ground up, being as present as possible for every moment I am invited on board; giving the right tools, skills and input at the right time to bring artistic visions to life and in doing so give the piece of art all it needs to create itself. This craft has now taken most of my life to study and practice. I continue to grow this base each and every day to make every moment of every track/piece of art/project as deeply rich and fulfilling as it can possibly be within our hands.
I hope this site helps and inspires you.
This spot is where I make records and in many ways represents a lifetime of work. The space where tracking, recording and filming of all sessions that I am brought on board with takes place.
I have been building this space up for some years now, entirely by ear and by hand. Most of what you see is made by hand from the baffles/gobbos to the side cars, shelving, diffusion, absorption, cable runs & soldering etc... this has maintained that the space be completely unique and made to feel the right way.
It features a huge live room (23x27x16ft) that opens into a wicked sounding long hallway which is all lovingly served by a whole bunch of classic, trusty, boutique & unique mics.
In house instruments include drum kits, guitar heads, speaker cabs, amp selector system, pedals, a collection of wildly unique recording guitars, organ, piano, keys, percussion and of course a handful of killer snares; this is all stored in house to cover any tonality we could desire to seek. Ultimately, we want you want to sound like you and in this space that can be taken to any heights you require.
The control room overlooks the live room and offers a balance of lounge and work space.
At the heart of the studio sits an original Trident Series 80 - built in the 1980's in London, to spend it's life in the Baltics, eventually landing back in the UK at 40+ years old to work on records at All Silk. It features 30 channels of Trident pre-amps and EQs all generously available to be tracked to a DAW. In support of this amazing sounding console there is a generous section for dynamic control from manufacturers such as Drawmer, Bellari, SPL, BSS, Thermionic Culture... we use nothing but class for monitoring - Miller & Kreisel and soon to be Trident HG3's - to hear Trident as they imagined.
I have endeavored with my all to cover all bases that could be conceived with this space. I hope you love it!
This space represents the building of the All Silk facilities & entity from the ground up since 2017 and was my full time facility for nearly two years during a fun and fulfilling freelance phase, before adding the recording facility to truly be as present as possible for any and all projects.
Starting off with a budget interface, software and a couple speakers this space has vastly evolved into a world-class audio suite and Mastering House. I run the space as a full-time online Mastering House/Mastering Engineer and perform all of my editing and mixing here.
Personally, I love to work a project from the ground up. From microphone number one to Final-Master. However, after spending some years specialising in Mastering approx 5-6 years into my audio engineering career I feel the experience and sheer grit of the process through learning the job to the highest standard I can has given me several tools, skills, perspectives and abilities that only add to the art of making records.
I have the priviledge of hearing hundreds of final mixes arriving completely separate to the familiar recording and mixing environment which is a gift that I can only hope the work I turn over represents the gratitude I have for the fact.
The space uses industry standard/world class conversion, a full analogue system for achieving hybrid flexibility and fidelity, an immense array of speakers which have become second nature to the senses over these years and of course a healthy catalogue of software to achieve everything an artist could crave.
